The Bear Bridgnorth

The Bear in Bridgnorth is a family business and the Licensee is Kim Neale. Kim also teaches French and Spanish in a Shropshire School The bar manager‘s role is undertaken by her son, Chris, who has recently competed a degree in Business Management. They moved into the Bear in April, 2009 and have brought it back to life again. But the work is not finished yet and they continue to make improvements on a daily basis.

We have recently revamped the bar and it is a very comfortable  place to relax. It is tastefully furnished with comfortable leather sofas and tub chairs and is well coordinated with colourful cushions, pictures and mirrors. There is subdued lighting and candles all around the room which make it
very atmospheric. Combine these with the lovely inglenook fire and fireplace and it is no surprise that customers and guests of all ages like to pass their time here.

The Bear in Bridgnorth is a former coaching inn situated conveniently in the centre of Bridgnorth, on the High Street. It can be found just through the Northgate arch if you are in the shopping centre and can be easily identified from it's beautiful hanging sign of a Bear.

The historic pub has a wealth of attractions and serves up good food and a fine range of ales. These include HPA, Enville, IPA and Hobgoblin, all for only £2.50 a pint. There are two well furnished bars with a lounge bar that benefits from comfortable leather sofas and a public bar that has a 42" television, as well as a state of the art darts board. An extensive menu of freshly prepared fine food is available throughout the day from a wide ranging menu and we also offer a special 'Best of British' Sunday Lunch.

For those who wish to make their stay a little longer, there is luxurious en-suite and self contained accommodation available. All of our bed and breakfast accommodation is centrally heated with ample tea and coffee making facilities and our guests also have the use of a kitchen and lounge area.

The Bear has a range of activities that take place in the pub and there is a full and varied entertainments programme to suit all tastes.

Outside The Bear there is a lovely picturesque garden with ample facilities for children. There are now three covered areas. The marquee, which is next to the swings and slide, has table football and table tennis. Under the gazebo and the large umbrella there is plenty of seating and a gas-fired chimenea for those cold winter evenings. There is also a large candle lit rosebush and lots of eye-catching plants.

Many of Bridgnorth's historic and famous attractions are only a short walk away and the Bear is an ideal base for exploring them. You can read more about Bridgnorth and its' attraction here. Licensee Kim and her son Chris will give you a warm and friendly welcome so, whether just passing or wishing to stay a while, please do call in.

Historic Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth is an historic riverside town that nestles deep in the Severn Valley. It is split into the High Town which overlooks the River Severn and Low Town which runs alongside the banks of the Severn. Both parts of the town are linked by a fascinating funicular railway which is the steepest in the country.

The town is split into two distinctive sections, with High Town overlooking the river and Low Town alongside the banks of the Severn. Both parts of town are linked by a fascinating funicular railway, which is the steepest in the country. There are also many other old and historic routes through cobbled streets or stone steps. Attractions in High Town include beautiful walled views over the River Severn, historic castle remains, St Leonard's Church (which can be seen from our lounge and from the letting rooms), the Northgate arch, the Old Town Hall and Richard Baxter's House. Venturing into Low Town you will find scenic walks along the banks of the river Severn, Lavington's Hole, Bishop Percy's House and the world famous Severn Valley Steam Railway.

Throughout Bridgnorth there are many interesting shops offering a wide variety of local crafts and gifts. There are also many antique shop and curio shops as well. The Bear is ideally located to visit these.
